This project will forever be etched into my memory. It was on Lake Keowee in South Carolina. The entire experience was amazing: from the client meetings, to site visits, and all the way through the three week install. The architect was Stephen Fuller and the builders were Gabriel Builders in SC...they are amazing to work with and their projects are simply incredible!!

The molding and attention to detail throughout the entire property (exterior included) was on time. These were some of the most detailed oriented clients I've ever worked with, love it!

The kitchen was amazing! We worked with Design Galleria here in Atlanta and the finished product could not have turned out better.

I know, pick your jaw up

Master bedroom suite with 180 degree views of the lake and the mountains. So many custom features, we all could have stayed forever.

Wish I had a picture of the shower...the tile work made me smile every time I walked through this space.

There were three terrace levels, all with unique seating areas and decor. All over looking the lake, of course.

Fun experience for our entire design team, so proud to have been a part!

There's a small part of me that feels a little guilty putting that title...?

This was an amazing home here in Atlanta that was a rebuild project for us after a fire broke out in the kitchen and spread throughout the entire home. Walking through after the fire was just gut wrenching and even though it was a long process, I hope we left this client with a cool place that he can make new memories in...I think it ROCKS!

This planked kitchen is one of my all time favorites! The clean lines, subway tile, carrera marble & honed black countertops, the lighting, just everything. I loved this project!

Another hidden door! This one leads to a full bath & laundry area with cool glass tile and a custom vanity area. If you didn't know it was there, you'd never know it was there!

Amazing bath renovation. I would never get out of that shower, ever!

Because the fire destroyed anything and everything, we had a little fun with the attic and made it a guest suite. This was a very small but fun and functional bath addition for this space that we would not have been able to find if not for the fire.

I guess burning rings of fire are good for something else besides Johnny Cash, right?

This was a master suite addition for one of the sweetest, older couples that I've ever worked with. Unfortunately, Mrs. Corry passed away before our final reveal but hopefully Mr. Corry has a relaxing place to come home to and can rest assured that Mrs. Corry would have loved it.

This is a virtual retreat where clouds are made of pudding and you're skipping and singing everywhere you go. Hmmm, I love it. Blog! Blog! Blog! ...at least that's what I think of everyday. Unfortunately, that's not what always occurs. Work and life here in the new city are starting to pick up and spin like they've both had a big night on the town. Let's see...I've been to Minnesota, back to GA, then Florida, back to GA, down to FL again (birth of my second niece: otherwise, for me, known as Aunt-hood 2.0), then finally back in GA for at least a week or two. Within the next month or three I should be going to New York (staying in a 3 story penthouse on Park Ave-pick your jaw up) for work, then South Carolina for a two week install, then Indiana for a fun wedding, then hopefully Aspen & Denver to meet two other clients (cross your fingers I'm on that trip)! It's only picked up just a little here right? Below are a few images of our MN trip and a couple of one really sweet little nugget!

I love that book! Since moving to "the big city" I've been doing a lot of changing in my design style. Everything seems to be shifting by no fault of my own or anyone else's. More of a product of my environment. Planked anything is way up there on my new list of old & industrial loves! Not the old paneling that we all had growing up and would die if we had to have it again but old, worn, solid pieces of wooden planks. White wash is my fav! Back to the Future would've gone a little something like this if it were filmed in the 70's.

I am totally and utterly obsessed and in love with lofts. My dream (right now) is to live in a loft with exposed brick, exposed duct work, floor to ceiling windows, huge roof top terrace with a cool landscaping & cool pool and an amazing view of the city...not to much to ask right? But in this city, I think your first born child and entire year's salary is required for your down payment. There's just something about loft style living that seems so cool and easy. I love the simplistic design style of these spaces, whether contemporary, urban, traditional, or even a little beach cottage feel. They're all so inspiring and oh so chic!!

I was recently introduced to this designer/photographer's website and as I was going through I notice this one resident that had tons of art throughout their home. Being a designer you learn a lot about art out in the professional field but get a really great foundation to start from in school. I would like to think though that I would be drawn to art even if I weren't a designer, that it's just something in your blood. Anyway, the reason for all that was because I love how art is such a way for everyone to express themselves. You can turn in every different direction with art. You even like some form of art even if you say you don't like art. Art is everywhere! Loves it!!!

Please don't because all of these before kitchens are heinous and you don't know what you could catch. The pictures below, for me, are the reason that I went into this field. I get so excited and get so many ideas from images like the ones below that I literally give myself a headache. It's so cool what designers and/or homeowners come up with.

It has been a busy busy BUSY few months with getting more involved within projects at work, learning my new and beautiful city, making new friends, and doing everything without a personal computer (since April) but we are back and running and I'm so super excited!! I cannot even tell you how much I've missed blogging ideas and new inspirations. It's like having an online idea file that I get to share with you and go back to over and over again for ideas. Granted, my actual "idea file" on the laptop is 100 times larger than what's online, it still counts! So let's start this one off with a bang...my first installation within my new job! Whew!! This was such a fun project to work on. I came into this one after around 90% of the kitchen layout was complete but got to be a part of the design process; oversee most of the installation and tweaking within the entire house. This planked cabinetry style is the new face of our custom cabinetry. It has such a unique quality that I love...it can be a nightmare to get every little line to line up but completely and totally worth it! We brought this kitchen up to date and even a little more into the future while maintaining a classic look. I love the seamless and consistent lines (the hidden bathroom door), the white subway tile (my favorite of all time), and our clear glass pendants (our "ah-ha" moment). Such a great first install and great client to work with! Can't wait to show more of our designs once our installations are complete! :)

I really love this fun little idea. I've seen it a lot in children's rooms but never on a range hood (adorable) or a pantry entrance. I know Benjamin Moore & RustOleum make this cute chalk board paint. You can find it places like Home Depot, Lowes, and Target. Such great ideas for all ages!! I wish that I'd had a chalk wall when I was younger...then maybe I wouldn't have "supposedly" drawn on my parents white bedspread with a red tube of lipstick. Let's count that one as lesson #1-learned! I can't wait to maybe get to use this somewhere in my future home one day! This one is certainly one to put in the idea vault!

Anthropology Apology

Meg over on House Notes is having a Anthropology craft party over on her blog today! This is such a perfect idea for all of us to create something cool and get together to blog about it! I don't know if it is a competition or just a show and tell but none the less it's a perfect idea Meg!

I'm sending out my official Anthropology Apology with this one...this project is less than stellar but was cool & EASY to make. Please pardon the pictures though, I don't know how you guys get your pictures to look so professional! The finished project is a framed earring holder. You can go really fancy or pretty modern depending on the type of frame you select.

For this project I selected a basic, large frame (I have a lot of earrings) to start and spray painted it white.

Then I cut my mesh wire to fit on the back of my frame.

I pulled the wire tight and stapled it many many times to the frame then nailed a hook/bracket on to the back to hang it on the wall.

Once the finished frame is on the wall you want to be able to actually hang earrings on it, right? So you want to get the mesh wire off of the wall a little to be able to hook your earrings on it. Some people (ie: my roommate) used furring strips but I didn't have any so I used some extra felt pads!

Once you're finished then you can hang it on the wall and will have a fun display for your fun earrings!!

I got the idea from my roommate, Emily. I loved her frame but I was trying to create a project that was the best kind of all...FREE!!!

This could not have been easier to make. I love mine so far and the earrings stay on so well! It's been perfect for quickly finding earrings to wear everyday! Thanks for the idea Em!!

I received a request from Meg on House Notes a few weeks ago asking would I post a few pictures of backsplash ideas. I have not been able to find the time up until this point (so sorry) but you wanted them...well now you have them! And a lot of them! :)

Subway tile of any material or finish is my absolute favorite! To me, in an odd way, it feels timeless but has such a modern feel to it.

Really cool way to mix up your sizes but mean while staying within the same tile family.

Now this is for the artistic! You can make any design, and I mean any, with mosaic tiles. This will make any home unique; it's a great way to express your inner artist!

I do like the look of slate tiles. We have them on the floor of my kitchen in a larger size. There are so many colors that jump out...beautiful anywhere!

How about a little metal?? This is a cool design and is so practical for wiping up grease splatter behind the range/cooktop area.

Sticking with the same pattern but switching the material...travertine! I love this material too. It's a natural material that you can choose to fill in the creases and crevices for a smoother finish if you'd like.

I love the boldness of this kitchen. There are so many colors screaming out! I would love to experiment with more color in the beach house that I'm going to buy...one day.

Recycled tile is always a great direction to go in. This particular view shows an iridescent, mosaic tile. This type of tile comes in every shade of color you can imagine.

Again with the subway tile, I know, I know. Not even to mention that it's white...my favorite! Yes, I have a lot of favorites but white subway tile might take the cake!

How much fun is this? This is a backsplash in a bath area. Great area to just have a little more fun in!

Another example of mosaic tile. I love the contemporary feel of this kitchen. It's so clutter free!

I have seen this look more and more within the past few months. Almost any type of countertop material will work on the walls but the look of marble is my favorite. With its coloration and characteristics it feels like it has an old soul to me!

So as most of you know my roommates and I have been moving in to our new place, unpacking box after box after box, hanging, re-designing, spackling, and painting like mad women. On top of moving (not only houses but to a new city in general for me), which can make a sane women crazy...in a good way, I started a new job!! I technically started in mid December and was living with different friends different nights of the week (bless them) until I moved permanently but now that I actually live here it feels like I've just really begun my job! I can't wait to finally be settled in or at least feel like I am so that I can begin posting again! I promise that will happen very soon!!! Until then this is for you! :)

Mirror, Mirror On The Wall

I'm thinking about going a little more glam this year. I wonder if any of the pieces that I want to re-finish would look good with this mirrored look??? I've added one more piece of furniture to my New Year's Restoration Resolution. I have a matching dresser that goes with my chest of drawers that's already on the list. Is there an easy way to even attempt this? I though if anything maybe I'll just put a mirrored top on one of them. I think mirrored pieces like the ones above are so beautiful. I couldn't imagine the Windex that you would go through to keep them polished though...

Ok so I've figured out what my New Year's Resolution is going to be...it's to finally re-finish my chest of drawers and two chairs I just bought at Goodwill! I feel like this is something completely within reach to do and can't wait to get started.

I've seen so many inspiration pictures from friends and other blogs that I'm thinking it's going to be a breeze. The chairs will have to be recovered so that I cannot do and will not even attempt but I'll do everything up to that point! Hopefully I don't have my head in la-la land but stay tuned to see how they turn out! What is your New Year's Eve resolution???

We were in the same design program in college. He now lives and works in New York designing interiors and furniture for NY's elite. How genius is this?? This is such a creative & easy pendant that you can create right at home: all you need is a colander!!

I saw this used at a bar near 5-points in Atlanta, GA and fell in love with them! What a great way to bring the past into the future.

For all of you wine connoisseurs this one is for you! These wine glasses turned upside down seem as if they would reflect the perfect amount of light off of each other with just one simple bulb in the center!

I have always loved these basket pendants. They are such a natural element to use in this kitchen. They blend in completely with their surrounding but a fun color could make them pop for more of an artistic touch.

This modern glass pendant is sure to become quite a conversation piece in your kitchen, bar, or around your dining room table.

These pendants are one of the first pendants that I remember seeing when I started this blog a few weeks ago. They pretty much are the reason for this particular post. They bring so much to this space without being to distracting. I loved them!

Who doesn't love fabric?? These would be so easy to create in your own home. I would buy a colander lamp shade and cover it with fabric then buy a lighting kit and wah-lah, a beautiful and unique pendant light!

Natashia Bedingfield's kitchen and bath has such a clean and sleek look! I love the bamboo cabinets mixed with slab white and stainless steel. The frame-less shower is one of my favorites!

Meg Ryan's kitchen reminds me of a cool library with the larger display/book shelves on the back wall. The countertop space is perfect for cooking for large groups! I really enjoy the coffered and beamed ceilings in several rooms and the back lounge/dining area.

Mark Jacobs your style is right in tune where we thought you would be. Sleek, modern, sophisticated, and stylish!!!

This picture was the source of my inspiration for my senior design project when i was in college. Don't you just LOVE the red/almost pink color, the glass wall cabinets, black counter tops, stainless, and hint of yellow or green...if I were going red...i go here in a heart beat!

If you have a little more modern taste...red lacquer high gloss cabinets!

Little more rustic...i really enjoy natural elements in this kitchen: simple cabinetry, wooden butcher block island, flowers, veggies, etc...the sink is one of my favorite features. It could be modern, urban, rustic-it's just big, bold, and beautiful!

Country living for sure. Color and pattern on the floor is a unique way to introduce color into your kitchen palate.

I love the checkered floor so much! It seems like it would be so much fun anywhere in your home!

Don't have a lot of money to put into a bath renovation but love color? Fabric, fabric, fabric! Fabric will always change the look or feel of your space. Here the funky shower curtain with candle votives and flowers change the feel of this white on white bathroom!

Can you tell that I love tile mosaics yet? They can be so personalized. Like I've said before, tile mosaics are like a unique piece of art work. So personalize your own art work with mosaics!

Fun red tile will spice up your bath. This one shower wall with a 2 x 2 iridescent tile grid is a nice focal point for this bath.

Tile, cabinetry, counter tops, floors, and fabric...a fast change that's as easy as 1, 2, 3...sometimes!

Lets be honest...orange is not going to be the first color I think of when wanting to spice things up in a room but with that being said there are really some cool, modern ways to incorporate it. Walls are an obvious choice, bringing in this color with fabrics is another, tile choices (solid color or mosaics!), even down to your door color like one of the pictures above-with the correct shade of orange you could completely make this color work for you!

Hello Love...this is a kitchen that I found when researching subway tile for a client and it is without a doubt one of my favorite kitchens of all time. I adore the blue subway tile and white Shaker cabinetry with mullion doors and stainless appliances and the HUGE amounts of light flowing in even more. The natural elements such as the wooden based stools and the bamboo shades bring this kitchen down to earth for me. The smallest little touch of yellow on the lemons is perfect too! Tile and decorative accessories-easy way to splash a bit of color. Love it!!!

Some of my favorite kitchens are this light shade of blue. This color is so calming to me and paired with a white farm sink, stainless deck mount bridge faucet, and beautiful flowers like the pink ones in this picture, it seams like peaceful perfection to me.

This feels so classic to me, like it would be somewhere in the south in a kitchen on a plantation. Painting bead board inside of your cabinetry is a great idea for adding a little color into your space. Your color doesn't even have to necessarily match the china that's within your cupboards like what is shown here.

Adding tile of any size, shape, color, or form will help spruce up your bath. This blue splash of tile is like a piece of art work! I love it, it's so fun and creative. It just makes me want to dance! Getting ready in this bath would be a happening event every morning.

Bead board wainscoting is a nice, simple way to add a little charm to your bath. Painting it an accent color, like this blue, will add just the right amount color without going overboard.

Green with Envy

Here are a few pictures of ways to incorporate green into your kitchen! I love the first picture. The cabinets going to the ceiling really heightens this space, giving it such a grand feel. I enjoy the small touch of green on the ceiling also. With white walls, open space, black counter tops, and a small touch of red...beautiful! The second has green mixed with white, black, and stainless. This green has a little more pop to it but paired with the other colors and textures its perfect (I adore the fun fabric on the cushions in the breakfast nook). The third picture, and one of my favorites, uses so many different hues of the color green: fabric on chairs, ceiling, cabinetry on the near side of the kitchen, the door (I love the door!), and even the fruit on the table. This is such a fun, unique, and easy way to incorporate green. I also love the small hints of yellow to top it all off!

Think Pink

Here are photos of two unique design ideas on how to use color. These particular rooms obviously utilized pink, one of my favorites! I love the adorable soft pink appliances in the kitchen mixed with just a touch of blue. This is a great idea of how to pop a little color without being too dramatic. If you LOVE the idea of being a little bold & dramatic try splashing a wild color, like this shade of pink, on the walls! Fun, fun, fun!!!

These outdoor kitchen areas are just screaming for huge parties to be thrown! If you're lucky enough to have an outdoor grilling oasis of this magnitude I would be thrilled to attend a party at your house anytime!!

Can't you just imagine guests sitting out here at night watching the stars while you're grilling away and playing host? This particular outdoor kitchen doesn't have a lot of cabinetry options shown but it is very unique. I love the pergolas over each grilling station!

I love the way these homeowners incorporated wooden cabinetry with their outdoor kitchen/dining area. This makes it feel like you're actually standing inside of your kitchen and the cabinetry also helps to conceal cooking necessities. The oversized hood is such a perfect focal point for this area; a smaller hood would have completely been lost in this open space.

Hello! I'll take mine by the cabana please! I can see this being at someones personal residence in Rome or Italy...or be very Americanized like at a hotel in Las Vegas. Either way, it feels timeless with the arched roofline and flowing draperies.

This is a typical stone look that one might see for an outdoor kitchen. Now this might be a little intense for some but imagine the cuisine possibilities here! I would love to be on the other side sitting in a bar stool placing my order for sure.

There are so many fun AND functional ways to create an outdoor kitchen/dining/living space. Try to re-invent the wheel and think outside of the box in this area! This should be an area for relaxation and fun so have fun designing it! Stone, wood, tile, plaster, stainless steel, etc...just go for it!

Hello!

This is my very first blogging experience and I am so excited to start things off with one of my favorite kitchen and bath designers, Ellen Cheever, CMKBD, ASID, CAPS. Ellen has been a leader in the kitchen and bath industry for the over 37 years. I was able to attend one of her seminars in Atlanta, Ga a few years ago and enjoyed getting to learn more about her personally, her nationally recognized company, and her experiences within this crazy and every changing interior design/kitchen and bath field. She has been gifted enough to not only be a designer (for residential projects, marketing/exhibits, and showrooms) but to also be a spokesperson for our industry, an author, a product consultant for several manufacturers, and to top it off she was inducted into the NKBA's (National Kitchen and Bath Association) Hall of Fame...when does she find time to sleep???

Ellen Cheever is certainly someone that inspires me within my career and hopefully this blog will be a source of inspiration to some of you who view it!
